More than 1500 active citizens put together the symbols of their cities during the flesh-mob «InForm your community»

On Saturday, September 26, 11 regional centers of Ukraine joined the flesh-mob «InForm your community», initiated by the GURT Resource Centre within the Citizen Participation Week which lasted from 21 to 27 September in the Central and Eastern Europe countries.

During the flesh-mob over 1500 active citizens from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Kirovograd and Severodonetsktogether at the same time assembled pieces of a great pictureofthe symbols of their cities in order to attract the attention of the Ukrainians and to inform them how important it is to participate in their own communities development.

In Kyiv the event was held on the Sophia square and gathered social activists, NGO representatives, initiative groups and movements as well as passers-by united by the common idea of citizen participation. The citizens together with the city visitors have assembled the gigantic puzzle with symbol of Kyiv.

«On the trainings where I’m a coach, I try to talk more about the role of the citizen participation for social change. So once l’ve heard about this event I realized that I should join it to get my own experience of such a сommunity activity», said an independent coach Tetiana Lytvynova.

«Citizen participation is very important for the formation of a new Ukraine. Although many people still believe that the change is  possible only due to elections. Such events show the importance of participatory democracy. If we are interested in what is going on around us and want to develop our community, we will be able to build a new country together», considers Oleh Slabospytskyi, coordinator of the Civil Sector of Euromaidan.

The Global Citizen Participation Week is a series of events that call attention to the importance of participative democracy. This social development initiative have involved more than 200 non-profit organizations from the Central and Eastern Europe for the last years.

Within the Citizen Participation local communities and civil organisations come together with social improvement and other initiatives in order to share their views on the community development.
